Alex Wait Announces Run for Indiana State House to Help Families Afford to Thrive

Northern Indiana, Alex Wait today announced his campaign for Indiana State House, launching a campaign centered on one clear belief: families who work hard should be able to afford to stay and build a life here.

Wait, a young father who chose to move home to raise his daughter in Northern Indiana, said the decision to run came from living the same pressure many families feel every day.

“I came home to raise my family here, and I’m running so your family can afford to stay here,” Wait said. “Right now, too many families are doing everything right and still falling behind. The grocery bill is higher. The mortgage or rent keeps climbing. The utility bill shows up whether you can pay it or not. People are tired of working harder and feeling squeezed.”

Wait said his campaign will focus on protecting the basics that make family life work: strong neighborhood schools, steady jobs, safe communities, and costs that do not push people out.

He pointed to concerns about local schools being pulled into political fights instead of being supported. “When schools lose focus or funding, it is not abstract. It is the class size your kid sits in. It is the support a struggling student may or may not get. Our schools are anchors for families and employers. They deserve steady support, not noise.”

Wait also drew a contrast with what he called a political culture that feels disconnected from everyday life. “Too many decisions are made by people who do not live what families live. I am not running to get louder or richer. I am running because I am raising a child here. I feel the same financial squeeze you feel.”

Throughout the campaign, Wait plans to meet voters across District 5, listen to their concerns, and share practical ideas to ease pressure on working families. He said he believes Hoosiers want leadership that is calm, prepared, and serious about the work.

“I will do the homework. I will listen before I talk. And I will remember that this job is about representing families, not performing for politics,” Wait said. “This district should be a place where our kids can grow up, get a good education, find a good job, and choose to stay close to home. That is worth fighting for.”
