Education

In early-2025, Dale DeVon voted to cut a combined $11,000,000 from the Penn-Harris-Madison and Mishawaka School Districts. When the state government cuts money for schools, they are hurting our children. That’s simply a fact. This comes after years and years of funding cuts for our schools which are killing our state. Indiana’s college attainment rate has gone down but our politicians are more focused on removing the duly-elected members of our school boards to replace them with out-of-state business officials.

Instead, here’s what I propose:

  • We cannot keep asking our teachers to do more with less. We need to end this completely unnecessary war on our teachers and give them the support they are begging for.

  • When funding cuts are made to our schools, the only way to make up for those budget shortfalls is for local governments to increase taxes which come out of your bank accounts. How about our state government funds our schools properly so taxpayers aren’t left holding the bag.

  • As state representative, I will vote NO on any bill that threatens to pull kids out of schools and force them to work on farms or in heavy industry. Indiana Republicans are currently advancing a bill which would no longer require employers to register and track minors on their payroll. Does that seem like a good idea to you?
