Fair Elections
Last year, Governor Braun embarked upon a harebrained scheme to gerrymander Indiana, violating the state constitution and bringing national embarrassment to Hoosiers in the process. And let’s be honest: he jumped on the gerrymandering train because he wants to run for President in 2028 and he thought rigging Indiana’s elections would help him with that. People don’t exactly trust politicians these days, so why do we trust them to choose their own voters?
For some reason, Dale DeVon thought it would be a good idea to go along with this scheme rather than stand up for his constituents and say no to this nonsense. Thankfully, Braun and DeVon’s scheme fell apart because even a majority of Indiana Republicans knew this was a bad idea. That being said, I want to make sure something like this never happens again and that Hoosiers receive fair representation.
As state representative, I will introduce a bill to create a non-partisan redistricting commission to draw new maps for Indiana every ten years as required by Article IV, Section 5 of our state constitution. No more violating our constitution!
This commission will be independent of the legislature and the governor’s office. It would be composed of members of both parties along with independent voters. This ensures that career politicians can’t pick and choose their own voters.
